Since 2003, the residence of Alyson and Richard Brewer-Hay has been known to family and friends as The Elizabeth Street Brewery. Located in the family-oriented San Francisco neighborhood of Noe Valley, The ESB is a pub for the people, by the people.
For the first three years of operation, the ESB brewing facility consisted of one 5-gallon pot on the kitchen stove of their home. In December of 2006, the operation moved out of the kitchen and the new space has allowed for them to double their brewing operation to 10-gallon batches at a time.
The ESB is a brewpub in planning. As we continue to build out our business plan, determine locations and work on recipes, we will do our best to keep people up to speed through this website and blog. Our dream is to open a full-scale family brewpub/restaurant in the Noe Valley area in the near future.
Our current “pub” is a renovated storage room that was featured on the TV show “While You Were Out” that boasts a speakeasy feel… Plus, most importantly, the beer is always free! (For now anyway:).
Richard and Alyson (Allie)
American born Alyson Brewer and English born Richard Hay met in September of 1993 while attending the University of Arizona and worked together at The Espresso Stop for over 2 years, serving lattes and coffees to students and teachers on campus.
Friends throughout college, it wasn’t until 1997, after both had completed studies, that they took their friendship to the next level. Richard moved to the Bay Area in July of 1997 to be closer to Alyson and they have been together ever since.
Both only children, when they married in 2003 they decided to take each other’s name – and became Alyson and Richard Brewer-Hay – so both family legacies could live on through their new family and children.
